Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

We need this music as it is the only radio station that plays it and our youth need the exposure to it! It is not about ecconomics it is about cultural survival.

Closing down the CBC Radio Orchestra will only impoverish the Canadian mosaic and culture.

I\'m from Indiana (US) and lived in Vancouver for a year and appreciated the CBC and their talent, and still do. Don\'t let them slip away!

STOP the watering-down & slow destruction of CBC: still one of the world\'s great radio stations! Restore classical music on the radio waves of our country, and DO NOT permit the destruction of the CBC Radio Orchestra.

Canadians of all ethnic backgrounds have listened to and supported this orchestra, enjoying the range of music it has presented. We need to retain support of quality Canadian presentataions.

Remember how during the seige of Leningrad the symphony played every day to give hope. Now more than ever we need the CBC orchestra to see us through our problems of Afghanistan war, climate change, Darfur, human rigths abuses in Tibet etc. etc. stc.

I have little hope that the management of the CBC will pay any attention to this petition, but I suppurt the gesture.

For the sake of the Culture and the future generations, it would be such a SHAME to stop what brings Hope, well-being and Identity to the country and the World !

The politicians want to kill the CBC, but they know they can\'t do it outright, so they go for the death of a thousand cuts. No more.

TodayI heard the CBC Radio Orchestra with outstanding Canadian musicians Canadian songs. We can not allow ignorant politicians and small minded bureaucrats erase Canada\'s cultural heritage from the fabric of our national identity.

Why would any Canadian Government ever want to reduce our cultural image? It can\'t be due to lack of money, with the current huge surplus, this widely acclaimed art should be expanding!
