Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

I\'m 27 and there\'s always been CBC. We are a nation and CBC is our NATIONAL way of further educating ourselves and others to what we are proud to call our home, Canada.

We love it! Please keep the CBC Radio Orchestra. It is a venerable, excellent orchestra and it deserves to be heard for many years to come. These are my tax dollars at work. Thank you! Barbara McDavid

The orchestra is a very important part of our cultural heritage. Its loss, along with many other changes planned by the CBC, is obviously part of a plan to emasculate the culture of classical music in Canada. A country is nothing without its culture.

I like the CBC and since I\'m paying for it I do not want some TWIT telling me that I\'ll get screaming pop tarts and twanging guitars. We can get that rubbish 24/7 anywhere in the world for free...

It is easy to destroy what works well, but much harder (and more expensive!) to recreate it.

CBC classical programming must be preserved.

Richard Stursberg, head of English CBC TV & Radio, after effectively killing CBC tv production, has turned his attention to CBC Radio. Perhaps Mr. Stursberg should go.

This is a wonderful orchestra and it is disgusting to learn that it is supposed to just end!! Thanks to the Harper Government!

Here in Central Florida one often hears on Public Radio fine recordings made by the CBC Vancouver Orchestra. What proud experiences for retired Canadians such as myself!

The CBC is owned by the people. Why should we be paying the salary of people who insist on erroding our culture? Fire them and keep the Orchestra.

This orchestra is very important in supporting Canadian composers and commissioning new Canadian works. And it plays to sold out houses! It and Alain Trudel are treasures we can\'t afford to lose.

CBC Radio Orchestra is the voice and the forum for our Canadian classical composers. Please let our unique voice live, support our Canadian cultural identity in the classical genre.

Our government subsidizes major corporations at our expense and quality of life. Are they far more important than the arts? Wake up and listen to the music.

I am very concerned that one more valuable Canadian institution is being sacrificed. I speak from a CBC listener’s point of view as well as a parent of two university trained musicians who\'s career path has been narrowed by this move.

As one of the few high school students who listen to the CBC at all, I think classical music is very important. As one of the few (or possibly last) radio orchestras in North America, this is something of our heritage.
