Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

this is very disappointing. CBC has been the only radio station I listen to for the past 50 years how can you consider doing this

Heather Lawrence
Just to let you know, there are many listeners under 35 such as myself, who are avid listeners & strong supporters of the CBC2 & its Radio Orchestra.

This unique ensemble must continue - it has produced so many fine performances and has been the voice of the CBC around the world.

Having come home to work after many years abroad I cannot believe how backward we have become. This orchestra must be saved- so many of us enjoy it.

I cannot understand the reasoning behind the axing of a cultural icon that represents Canada at its finest both as a cultural institution and as an icon of presenting music and programming at its best.

In addition to urging the retention of the CBC Radio Orchestra, please add my voice to the many calling for the retention of at least the current level of classical music programming on Radio 2. I have been enjoying it for the past 50-odd years.

This jewel of an orchestra needs to be supported, not axed. It is too important for the musical life of our country!

Jacqueline Deck
Keep some traditional culture going that speaks to the arts and connects history to present day.

If the powers-that-be at CBC think that pop afficianados will be tuning in to CBC, they are woefully ignorant. Restore classical programming to the full day! Where else can we find it?

Dieter Kirste
It is our Culture which keeps Canada together and our CBC Orchestra plays a vital role. Dieter Kirste

As a musician and educator, it grieves me that classical music will disappear from our nation\'s airways. The CBC has been a faithful supporter of classical music for decades. Is there no way to save our heritage? Must it be sold for 30 pieces of rap?

CBC Radio 2 has been a constant in my life. It is on during most of my waking hours and I will be devastated if it is cut. PLEASE reconsider.

In Jennifer McGuire, Executive in charge of CBC Radio, and Mark Stienmetz, Radio 2 Programming chief, the philistines currently running Canada have found willing executioners for North America\'s last radio orchestra.

Ending CBC\'s mature programming takes us just a few more steps to becoming American... keep it mature

please consider the orchestra as a group bridging genres, rather than within the classical envelope. i like the new CBC, but believe that it should feature this orchestra.

Bruce Miller
Classical training demands a huge commitment of its players. They deserve a forum to be heard.

MaryAnne MacDougall
The principle vehicle of classical music education in this country is the CBC. Without this exposure to the cannon of classical repertoire that the CBC broadcasts, Canadians will suffer a great cultural loss.

Please - this would be a backward step. We need more, not less of this calibre of artistry and integrity.

I truly appreciate the unifying work of CBC2 and the Radio Orchestra in bringing Canadians together. To disband them would unconscionable.

Judy Kilpinen
Don\'t silence these eloquent ambassadors of our country and all genres of music!

CBC\'s radio 2 is an incredible entity that stands head and shoulders above the riff-raff of other media that caters to the lowest common denominator. We cannot afford to cut it back.
