Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

A treasure worth preserving - may good sense (not cents) prevail.

I do not normally sign petitions. I believe in the CBC Radio Orchestra. I believe in preserving our cultural heritage.

This is an essential service. The attitude behind these changes is exactly why the words \"Canadian culture\" raise eyebrows abroad. Do not help to make Canada\'s critics so obviously right!

Mary Ruth Snyder
Please, do not disband the orchestra, I listen with my daughter which has given her great appreciation for classical music. Thank you.

It is serious enough that CBC has drastically reduced Classical Music progamming, but cancelling the CBC Orchestra is another ridiculus decsion.

As said above; the orchetra is part of our country\'s cultural heritage and na important means of providing exposure to the public on various musical indeavers including old and new.

Maybe it is a good thing that a large percentage of Canadians live fairly close to the U.S./Canada border. If Radio 2 and the CBC Radio Orchestra are \"dumbed down,\" they still will be able to tune in to U.S. Public Radio stations.

John Arsenault
As a professional musician, this is VERY disturbing news. I understand that an orchestra is a huge expense, but if priorities were in the right place a solution could be found.

Bad decision! one of the reason why classical musicians are in extinction. I\"m NOT a musician myself, just to be clear.

Donna Griblin
Canadian culture needs the CBC Radio Orchestra and classical music programming. There is far too much \"pop\" crap invading our daily lives.

Renee Doruyter
Please save the CBC Radio Orchestra and Radio 2. More classical music, less hockey!

Markus Hallensleben
It is easy to make decisions within seconds, but it takes decades to build a great orchestra.

Jane Hayes
Enough changes. Enough closed door decisions.

Greg Galoska
What else can I say but save Radio 2!

Tom Schmidt
Please save the CBC Radio Orchestra. Our North American society is suffering from slowly losing classical music.

Disbanding the CBC Radio orchestra would be a most disastrous decision.

This orchestra is at the core of our cultural identity, I appreciate the idea is to find money to sponsor our other musical groups. Without our core we will all wither.

We need more good classical music, not less. Leave the orchestra alone.

A terrible decision. Good luck sharing the 600,000 with other orchestras. Toronto wins again

Our last remaining CBC Orchestra is a treasure to be maintained and supported - not a frill to be slashed. Classical music has a large, diverse audience; please return/keep classical programming on the CBC airwaves.
