Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

Not just because it is an institution, a piece of valued canadian history, nor the heartbeat of our nation - but because through the arts & music especially we are transformed into a higher state.

Why is it that there is always a ton of money for everything but classical music? Please reconsider - maybe you think that people don\'t listen to it, but if it is not available to listen to, how can they.

Our education system has given up supporting the arts. We need CBC to represent the high potential that all citizens of Canada have the right to aspire to. If they know nothing about the potential, how can they desire to reach?

My children and I play in a community orchestra. What a wealth of experience that brings! We need to save our orchestras, especially CBC\'s, and support the arts before it becomes a dying breed. If the CBC orchestra goes, what will be next to go?

The CBC Radio Orchestra is a national treasure. And CBC\'s classical programming is part of the daily cultural life of millions of us--don\'t mess with it.

Live music on the airwaves is so important. Not everyone is able to attend a concert and to be able to enjoy the same quality of performance by radio is essential.

Not only is classical music of vital importance to a society and to individuals who play it, or listen to it, it is a shame to make all the many fabulously trained and gifted classical musicians in Canada fend for themselves.

Andrea Battista
This is one of many cuts at CBC radio which will lose many listeners.

What is this government thinking? There seems to be plenty of money to give away overseas, war, etc. Absolutely they should keep this orchestra as well as supporting classic arts.

Musc as part of daily life is under constant attack in schools and in our culture in general. The CBC\'s responsiblity, in this petitioner\'s mind, includes defending and propogating good music. Please do not destroy it.

Canada needs the CBC Radio Orchestra. It is a vital part of our cultural life. PLEASE preserve it! I also love CBC classical music programming.

What a shame!

Without icons such as the CBC Radio Orchestra we are left with an increasingly featureless musical landscape.

Please protect our heritage for our young and talented musicians and show them classical music is important in Canada too

There is little trouble in governments supporting sports. The arts are supposed to survive on their own.

Don\'t destroy a valuable piece of our history and culture.

I think the disbanding of the CBC Radio Orchestra and the programming changes at CBC reflect badly on the Canadian government, CBC, and the government\'s cultural policy. As a taxpayer, I see this as an abuse of my tax dollars.

The CBC Orchestra is important to what it means to be Canadian.
