Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

CBC doesn’t have the balls to be different from other broadcasters. They have a gift for presenting Canada in ways that no other broadcaster can or dares, yet they continue to squander these opportunities. How embarrassing for a national broadcaster!

As an aspiring young Canadian composer, seeing such an important performing group shut down is terribly concerning. This group must be saved.

Funding for the arts in Canada is essential to the ongoing cultural formation of the nation. The orchestra is a key component in our national identity.

Please remember that all that is valued can not be measured in dollars, and that we as taxpayers can and do support using our resourses for the CBC orchestra and would prefer that to tax cuts.

I am disheartened by the Canadian Government and the CBC\'s terrible attack on culture in this country. The CBC Radio Orchestra is crucial to music in Canada.

As a music lover I would dearly miss the creative outlet that the CBC Radio Orchestra provides. Please ensure that it stays.

Publicly funded arts organizations are viable abroad(consider BBC). Why not in Canada also? Every great country needs great art and culture. Please save the CBC.

I sincerely hope we are not voices in the wilderness!

Music is linked to math which is linked to science and technology which is linked to the health of our economy. Breaking a link in the chain is twisted logic.

I have always viewed the CBC as a source of honest, unpoliticezed, people centered broadcasting. This cut is just another sign of changes in this mandate.

With so many wonderful musicians coming out of Canada, we need more orchestras, not less!

Many studies have shown the impact of music on academics in children. Please do not tell kids that music is not important.

This orchestra is a central player in encouraging Canadian composition and production of significant works. Its loss will affect all Canadians.
