Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

I deplore what the CBC is doing to its excellent music programmes and cutting the CBC orchestra is another retrograde step.

Disbanding the CBC Radio Orchestra would be an irreparable loss. I’m all for improvement and innovation but why destroy something that is already working superbly well?

Graham Stuart
Does being the last orchestra of its kind in North America make the CBCRO an anachronism? Or does it point out that other parts of the world have attention spans longer than the 1 second media bite demanded by a culture of transience?

The Corporation cannot, must not, destroy a venerable and landmark Vancouver institution, just because it is altering its\' programming to a more juvenile audience which doesn\'t listen to radio anyway.

The CBC orchestra is invaluable resource as it performs Canadian classical music sharing it with Canadians. How are we going to hear this music without the venue on the CBC for the orchestra?

Pat Carfra
Please, please save this unique orchestra, so much a part of Canadian Music.

I simply cannot accept that the CBCs mandate be gutted from the inside, because it is more relevant than ever for various reasons, not the least educating canadians to the wonders of classical music. - 19 yrs old, and an avid listener.

Please don\'t destroy an opportunity for upcoming musicians who have put their heart and soul to study classical music. This kind of ignorant action sends the wrong signal to our talented youth.

Shame on CBC for their inability to manage a billion $ budget without having to slash the CBC Radio Orchestra.
