Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

Artists of all disciplines constantly leave Canada to make a decent living. Musicians employed here by the CBC Orchestra, have contributed to Canadian Culture without having to leave home. These fellow citizen artists entertain us, and enrich our lives.

I love classical music.

It is disturbing that Canada is quickly descending from a society with a rich sense of culture, to a society with no culture at all. Our culture is our identity, and without it we have none. Keep to Orchestra.

This week Canada lost a huge chunk of its musical history when the Manege Militaire de Quebec burned to the ground. Please don\'t let the CBCO go up in smoke as well...!

The CBC has to be our source of classical music because there is nothing else out there. Cutting the CBC Orchestra is a bad move.

The only job description of any government is to secure and expand Canadian culture; the depth and breadth of the spectre of French Canadian culture is truly awe inspiring. What on earth are you doing ?

There were many drawbacks to the ancient civilizations, but one of them wasn\'t that they ignored culture.

Scrap the Olympics - make music!!!

Joy Miller
Canadian lives are much richer because of this orchestra, please reconsider this decision.

Please forgive the ungrammatical nature of my previous comment, which should have read \"As the last radio orchestra in North America, the CBC Radio Orchestra [it, not we] deserves to continue to live and flourish.\"

Heidi Gygax
Please save the CBC Orchestra and save classical music on CBC2. Broadcasters like Tom Allen and Eric Friesen bring a lot of joy into the day!

Curtis Emde
As the last radio orchestra in North America, we owe it to the musicans and to ourselves to not kill the music.

Very disappointed at CBC\'s decision to end the CBC Orchestra! Sad day!!!

The termination of the CBC Orchestra tells me that the government considers our cultural heritage unimportant.

Robert D Holmes
This is a retrograde step and should be reversed. The government should reflect on the unfair short-changing of grants to Vancouver-based orchestral groups in comparison to those back East.

James Duthie
Talk about penny wise, pound foolish. What utterly false economy.

A very backward, counterproductive step

The loss of the CBC Orchestra and CBCFM would be a very sad dereliction of duty.
