Save CBC Orchestra - All Petition Signatories

The petition is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition and post comments. Though the CBC Radio Orchestra's life was ended by CBC Radio, the orchestra has been reincarnated in a new form: the National Broadcast Orchestra of Canada - Orchestre national de diffusion du Canada.

Dear Mark Steinmetz and CBC Radio, Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We the undersigned want the CBC Radio Orchestra saved. We believe that the orchestra is an integral part of Canada's mosaic and an important contributor to Canada's unique and rich cultural heritage. Our Canada includes the CBC Radio Orchestra!

Why get rid of something so valuable and culturally significant?

I really like the classical music CBC is providing. It\'s the only station with some educational material on the air across Canada. We need to preserve this heritage.

Let us not lose a good orchestra playing good, touching music in Canada. Canadians love it and should support it!!

With all the money we give to countries all over the globe as our civic duty, surely we can put aside sufficient to retain our Canadian cultural heritage.

I think it is a crime that you are shutting down this award winning orchestra! You have cancelled many tv shows as well, that are greatly missed - Canada Now, and Opening Night. Rosanne Matheson

Please also save radio2 classical music programming and the intelligent commentary that goes with it

This is about Canadian culture not commercialism

The CBC and the CBC Orchestra are two of the most vital elements of what it is to be Canadian. Surely if we can afford to send our military to Afghanistan we can afford to protect our culture here at home.

One more thing being axed that made me proud to be a Canadian .........

This is just the latest step in CBC\'s hopeless quest to become \"popular\" by dumbing itself down. The orchestra is a Canadian treasure, and ought not to fall victim to CBC\'s sad determination to become just like the commercial stations.

Give our young people a chance to hear classical music regularly so that they can join CBC\'s legion of listeners!

Another sign of the \"dumbing down\" of the C.B.C. I suspect that if this work goes elsewhere (and I am not confident it will), it will benefit musicians in Toronto and Montreal. The C.B.C. in Vancouver has all but disappeared.

Save all classical music on CBC radio 2, bring back saturday afternoon at the opera hosted by Howard Dyck. Stop diluting the classical programming with R and B, country, jazz and world music.

Joanne White
I think it would be a huge loss to the music community, and to the cultural heritage of Canada, to discontinue the CBC orchestra.

John Mulligan
Don\'t debate the issue. The orchestra is and always will be a vital cultural tool for Canadians to promote harmony in the country.

please reconsider this disastrous decision and keep the orchestra. Show some sense for a change!

I find it quite frightening what is disappearing from our source of culture which the CBC radio (in particular) is for me.
